AI Predicts That JD Vance Will Defeat AOC in the 2028 Presidential Election

An AI-assisted election projection predicts Vice President J.D. Vance would decisively defeat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) if the two become their parties’ presidential nominees in 2028.

The hypothetical map, published by the political analysis channel Election Time, gives Vance 339 electoral votes compared with 199 for Ocasio-Cortez.

The projection is not an opinion poll or an official election forecast. It models a potential matchup more than two years before Election Day, with neither Vance nor Ocasio-Cortez having formally entered the race.

Under the analyst’s scenario, Vance begins with 188 electoral votes from reliably Republican states, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, South Carolina, Missouri, Louisiana, Alabama, Utah, Idaho and the Dakotas.

The model places Ohio, Iowa and Texas in Vance’s solid Republican column. President Donald Trump carried each of those states comfortably in 2024, including winning Vance’s home state of Ohio by approximately 11 percentage points.

Florida, North Carolina, Arizona and Maine’s 2nd Congressional District are categorized as likely Republican, bringing Vance to 246 electoral votes before the most competitive battlegrounds are counted.

The projection then awards Vance the former Democratic “blue wall” states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, arguing that their recent movement toward Republicans would continue against a progressive nominee.

Minnesota, New Hampshire and Virginia are also projected to narrowly support Vance. A Republican victory in Minnesota would break the state’s decades-long streak of voting for Democratic presidential candidates.

The analyst argued that Ocasio-Cortez’s progressive record would make it difficult for her to retain moderate voters in the Midwest and other closely contested regions.

“The main reason behind her poor performance is simply the fact that she’s too progressive,” the narrator said.

Ocasio-Cortez begins with 98 electoral votes in the model’s safest Democratic jurisdictions, including California, Washington, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, Vermont and Washington, D.C.

The model later adds Oregon, Colorado, Illinois, New York, New Mexico, New Jersey and several East Coast states to her column. Despite those additions, she finishes below 200 electoral votes.

The final 339-199 result would represent the weakest Democratic performance since Michael Dukakis lost to George H.W. Bush in 1988, according to the analysis.

Vance has increasingly been viewed as a potential Republican frontrunner. Supporters chanted “48” during a recent Republican gathering, signaling enthusiasm for him to become the nation’s 48th president, although he has said the 2028 contest is not currently his focus.

Ocasio-Cortez has also fueled speculation about seeking higher office. She has declined to rule out running for president or challenging Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer in New York in 2028.

Vance has publicly predicted that Ocasio-Cortez could become the Democratic nominee, while she responded that she hoped Republicans would select Vance. Neither exchange amounted to a campaign announcement, per the Conservative Brief.

The source also cited prediction-market activity suggesting Ocasio-Cortez may seek the Democratic nomination. Such markets reflect traders’ expectations, not measured voter support or guaranteed political outcomes.

Any projection this early depends heavily on assumptions about candidates, turnout, economic conditions and future events. Party primaries have not begun, and the eventual nominees may differ entirely from the modeled matchup.

Still, the map illustrates the potential challenge Democrats could face if Republicans hold their recent Midwest gains while expanding into traditionally Democratic states.

In the hypothetical contest, Vance clears the 270 electoral votes needed for victory and enters the White House with a commanding 140-vote margin.
