Questions continue to swirl six months after the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. However, new details from testimony taken hours after the shooting incident have emerged.
The shooting occurred on location while preparing to film the movie “Rust,” starring Alec Baldwin.
Baldwin was holding the pistol that discharged but has maintained he did not pull the trigger and that the pistol handed to him was to be loaded with blanks — a “cold gun.”
According to The Daily Wire, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office recently shared additional bodycam footage, crime scene photos, witness interviews and text messages, helping to “paint a clearer picture of the 64-year-old actor’s involvement in the shooting.”
During a December interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Baldwin said he cocked the gun but “did not pull the trigger.” He said he was sad for what happened but ultimately wasn’t the cause of Hutchins’ death.
A distraught Baldwin said at the time, “Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but it’s not me.”
Footage of testimony taken shortly after the shooting shows Baldwin inquiring if he’s being charged with a crime. The deputy on the scene confirms he’s just there for questioning.
Fox News reported that Baldwin said to the officer: “When I shot the gun, away from the cameraman, I never aim the gun at the camera, I turned and I went like this.” Baldwin then made a gun with his fingers and demonstrated the movement.
A shaken Baldwin continued: “And she was there. And the gun went off. And she just went right on the ground.”
The New York Post reports Baldwin as saying: “I take the gun out slowly. I turn and cock the pistol. Bang! [Hutchins] hits the ground, she goes down. [Souza] goes down, screaming.”
Baldwin continued: “It’s supposed to be a cold gun … Now, this is a puzzle to me … this is making me very emotional.”
Baldwin also reports to the officer, “Hannah handed me the gun,” referencing on-set armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed.
RTM previously reported that Baldwin was named in a lawsuit filed by Hutchins’ family. The suit charges the actor and the film’s producers with “reckless conduct and cost-cutting measures” that “led to the death of Halyna Hutchins.”
Baldwin said in the newly released video testimony: “I don’t want to be a public person. I’m the one holding a gun in my hand that everyone was supposed to have taken care of.”
