A recent investigation into Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) office expenses has raised questions about her use of taxpayer funds, according to claims made by a social media user.
The allegations surfaced when X account user Paul A. Syzpula published findings from his review of the congresswoman’s expense records.
Ocasio-Cortez’s office spent $850 on “training” from a dance company, $4550 for more training paid to Juan D Gonzalez nd $3,384 at a Mexican restaurant in Virginia, according to Syzpula’s investigation.
Syzpula’s review of expenditure documents also claimed that the congresswoman employed 22 staff members between October and December 2024, with a reported cost of nearly half a million dollars.
The social media post further alleged that one of these employees had been living in the United States illegally, though this claim remains unverified.
The scrutiny extends beyond Ocasio-Cortez to other Democratic representatives.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has also come under fire for her spending habits, with disbursement records allegedly showing she charged taxpayers approximately $1,000 monthly for a car lease.
The social media investigation connects this expense to Crockett owning three luxury vehicles, though the direct link between the lease payments and multiple vehicle ownership is unclear.
These recent allegations follow previous controversies surrounding Democratic representatives’ spending. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) faced criticism last year over expense reports that allegedly included childcare costs, meals at Four Seasons steakhouses and accommodations at the Burj Al-Arab in Dubai, which is often marketed as a “seven-star” hotel.
Ocasio-Cortez and Crockett both came under fire late last week after a clip depicting several lawmakers mimicking video game fighters quickly went viral.
It was met with mockery from critics who saw it as an awkward attempt at engagement, Resist the Mainstream reported.
The video also included Democratic reps. Lauren Underwood (IL), Katherine Clark (MA), Judy Chu (CA) and Susie Lee (NV). Each congresswoman appears with a label highlighting their accomplishments while performing exaggerated fighting poses in the footage,
The video was met with swift backlash from conservatives on social media, with many mocking the Democrats for their behavior, especially following their reaction to President Donald Trump’s recent address to Congress. Many critics pointed to the contrast between the video and Democrats’ refusal to stand or clap for various moments during the speech.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), for example, linked the video to Democrats’ behavior during Trump’s congressional address, writing, “Trump Deranged Democrats release ‘choose your fighter skit’ after refusing to stand and clap for a child with cancer during President Trump’s address to Congress. Democrats have sunk so low that I’m actually starting to feel sorry for them.”
The White House’s rapid response social media account reacted to the video on X, posting, “Democrats Not Be Cringe Challenge. Level: Impossible.”
