Squad member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), better known as AOC, likely regrets her recent decision to initiate a battle of wits with X-Tesla-SpaceX owner Elon Musk.
The high-profile foray began when AOC attacked House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for not moving forward a budget proposal, thus threatening a government shutdown.
AOC mocked McCarthy’s hard-fought bid to become speaker and his leadership on the budget issue, writing: “Boy math is needing 15 attempts to count the votes correctly to become Speaker and then shutting down the government 9 months later.”
In response, AOC’s vulnerability regarding numbers was highlighted by conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair, who shared a video of AOC arguing that the number of legal immigrants processed through Ellis Island, New York, 120 years ago “far eclipsed what we’re seeing now” at the southern border.
St. Clair wrote: “Girl math is saying immigrants coming legally through Ellis Island is the same as 3 million undocumented migrants pouring through our border.”
Elon Musk jumped into the fray, writing on his platform, “She’s just not that smart.”
AOC took offense and responded with a terse post aimed at Elon:
“I wasn’t born rich and became the youngest woman in American history to be elected to Congress. Then I investigated Cohen, authored the largest FEMA funeral assistance program in history and led creation of a US Climate Corps to create tens of thousands of new jobs. Stay mad.”
AOC’s ill-advised post drew harsh criticism from fact-checkers. Fox News profiled a few of the comments.
Actor Dean Cain commented on AOC’s post, writing, “Nothing you just posted refutes his claim.”
St. Clair again corrected AOC, writing, “You grew up in the wealthy suburbs of Westchester County. Drop the Bronx shtick at the very least girly pop.”
Chris Burnet of American Conservative magazine wrote, “Okay but what about the illegal immigrants? You totally ignored that point. Because it’s indefensible”
Conservative influencer Harrison Krank pointed out how leaders in AOC’s Party have not been impressed with her record. Krank reminded X readers what former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said about AOC:
