Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said she is not as extreme a politician as Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The New York congresswoman’s remarks were made during a wide-ranging discussion Friday with CNN reporter Chris Wallace.

“Do you feel your life is in danger?” the host of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” asked her.

“Absolutely, I felt that my life has been in danger since the moment that I won my primary election in 2018,” Ocasio-Cortez replied. “And it became especially intensified when I was first brought into Congress in 2019.”

Wallace pressed her for more details, wondering if her fear extended as far as always looking over her shoulder while walking the streets.

“It means when I wake up in the morning, I hesitate to walk my dog,” the congresswoman replied. “It means when I come home, I have to ask my fiancée to come out to where my car is to walk me to just from my car to my front door.”

The progressive representative continued that it creates almost a static electricity force around her.

“And you’re just always just looking around, your head is just on a swivel, going to a restaurant, walking down the street,” she added.

The Democrat darling told the network reporter that her fears about personal safety “very much shaped” her political stances, adding she felt in 2019 she “may not see the end of the year.”

Wallace asked Ocasio-Cortez if maybe the answer was for members of both parties to move away from the fringes. Maybe if the current political landscape was not so charged, people’s passions would not be so strong, he wondered.

“I think a lot of people in this country may say yes, but it’s important for us to dig into the substance of what that actually means,” the congresswoman objected. “As someone who is often, I think, characterized as extreme, I of course would object to that.”

“I do not believe that I am as extreme in the way that Marjorie Taylor Greene on the Republican side is extreme.”
