Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) suggested on Saturday that Elon Musk was trying to gain attention and clout online by using her own past sentiments to make fun of her.
“Tired of having to collectively stress about what explosion of hate crimes is happening [because] some billionaire with an ego problem unilaterally controls a massive communication platform and skews it because Tucker Carlson or Peter Thiel took him to dinner and made him feel special,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter on Friday.
Musk responded, “Stop hitting on me, I’m really shy.”
Musk’s response is a reference to a news story from late last year where Ocasio-Cortez lashed out at critics online after she was caught hanging out in Florida without a mask on, suggesting that “Republicans are mad they can’t date me.”
AOC initially responded to Musk by claiming that she was not talking about him, writing, “I was talking about Zuckerberg but ok.”
The 32-year-old lawmaker quickly deleted the tweet, but later highlighted a screenshot of the entire exchange, including the deleted tweet, writing: “Like I said, ego problems.”
When asked about why she deleted the tweet, AOC responded, “I try to avoid giving people with massive ego complexes like this the attention and QTs/replies they crave and are seeking (when I can help it).”
“So you *were* talking about him,” Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon responded.
Breitbart News reporter Kristina Wong responded, “‘Like I said’ implies you were indeed talking about Elon, not Zuckerberg.”
“Sounds like someone is lashing out cause they got severely ratioed,” Radio host Mike Mason quipped.
