High School seniors from a Phoenix school raised nearly $10,000 to cover the medical expenses of their teacher’s wife, who requires a vital heart surgery.
Clayton Guy, 62, teaches government and economics at Arcadia High School in Phoenix. Last spring, he learned his wife Angel required open-heart surgery to resolve heart issues, according to a Fox News report.
“We just need more kind acts, no matter how small it is or how large it is,” said Parker Bond, 18, a student of Guy before he graduated last year from Arcadia High School in Phoenix.
“A teacher like Mr. Guy — who gave so much to us when he was down in a situation like this — was able to receive back because of his kindness and all he did for us,” Bond said in an interview with Fox.
The students’ benevolence illustrates the powerful bonds formed within educational institutions and the extent to which young people are willing to go to support those who have had a significant impact on their lives.
After learning about daunting medical bills the teacher faced, students created a GoFundMe campaign that raised $10,000 from 144 donors by Thursday.
“Mr. Guy is a great teacher and is always wanting the best for his students,” Bond said in the campaign description. “Heart surgery is a very expensive procedure so our goal is to make this more affordable for him.”
The commendable act by these young Arizonians not only underscores the importance of nurturing empathy and compassion among youth but also spotlights the crucial role teachers play in shaping the future of their students.
In return, it’s evident that students are willing and eager to give back and be there for those who have guided them through their formative years.
