On Wednesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that James Gordon Meek, a former national security investigative producer with ABC News, has been arrested.

Meek has not been seen in public since the FBI raided his home last spring — reportedly to search for “classified documents.” During the raid, FBI agents took multiple electronic devices, which allegedly contained “evidence of child sexual abuse image transportation,” according to the DOJ.

The DOJ report also noted finding a “username” linked to Meek that “received and distributed child sexual abuse materials in online chat conversations, with conversation participants expressing enthusiasm for child sexual abuse.”

An excerpt from the DOJ press release reads:

According to court documents, several of Meek’s devices allegedly contained images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, and multiple chat conversations with users engaged in sexually explicit conversations where the participants expressed enthusiasm for the sexual abuse of children.

In two of those conversations, a username allegedly associated with Meek received and distributed child sexual abuse materials through an internet-based messaging platform.

If convicted, Meek could be sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Skeptics question whether or not there is a tie between the FBI raid and charges brought forward by the DOJ and Meek’s investigative work, which noted U.S. involvement early on in the war in Ukraine.

RTM previously reported that Hulu’s acclaimed documentary “3212 Un-redacted,” produced by Meek, included several news stories that proved embarrassing to the DOJ.

According to the New York Post, Meek’s work also includes reporting on the deaths of U.S. servicemen in Niger and “several high-profile national security and terrorism-related stories.”

His last tweet was “Facts,” an assumed response to former FBI agent Marc Polymeropoulos who questioned the accuracy of Meek’s reporting.

Adding to the speculation is that Meek has seemingly been in hiding for months. Rolling Stone reported that Meek had not been seen since agents raided his apartment in April.

Eugene Gorokhov, Meek’s attorney, denied that Meek possessed classified material.
