Ruschell Boone, a beloved NY1 Journalist, died on Sunday evening.
Boone, 48, battled pancreatic cancer for many months. After a medical hiatus, Boone returned to the NY1 anchor seat several months ago.
NYI hailed Boone as a “principled journalist” who inspired others as she engaged in a brutal battle with cancer.
Her network released a memo noting that Boone was an exceptional asset to the station, having worked there for more than 20 years.
The memo noted that Boone was “a dedicated and principled journalist to the very end.”
The station added, “In her last week with us, she was still working on ideas for her show and sharing thoughts for making NY1 a continued beacon of truth for New Yorkers.”
Media host Brian Stelter called Boone “one of the most prominent anchors at the network.”
Foster Kamer called Boone a “legend” and a “deeply wonderful human.”
The New York Post reported that Boone is survived by her two sons, Jackson, 12, and Carter, 9, and her husband Todd.
