Ben Shapiro of The Daily Wire is an expert at discerning the bottom line on complex matters. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Shapiro commented on President Biden’s handling of Iran.
Shapiro, Daily Wire’s co-founder and editor emeritus, shared two possible reasons Biden has refused to comment on Iran during Wednesday’s “Uncensored” program with Morgan.
Noting that Biden has taken a surprisingly aggressive response to Hamas’ attack on Israel, pledging aid and sending planes and two carrier strike groups to the area, Shapiro noted that Biden’s comments on Iran have been stunningly soft.
Shapiro shared that the first reason is “bad” and rather “obvious,” adding that it “hinges on the Biden administration effectively handing over $6 billion to Iran, earlier this year,” reported the Daily Wire.
Iran is widely known as a leading funder of terror groups around the world, including Hamas.
Shapiro elaborated: “The United States has unfrozen $6 billion in assets to flood into Iran in return for hostages. That money is fungible and there’s every possibility that money flowing into Iran, the weakening of sanctions has contributed to Iran’s spread of terror. That is not only a possibility. That’s a probability, and everyone knows it.”
Biden refusing to mention Iran and thus putting it again in the spotlight is likely a measure to “avoid blowback,” said Shapiro, adding, “That is a bad reason.”
But The Daily Wire co-founder said there may be a strategic “good reason” to avoid mentioning Iran. That would be to “take down the temperature in the region.” as connecting Iran to the recent attacks on Israel could open the door for a direct response on Iranian soil.
Biden may be attempting to preemptively limit the expansion of the war.
Shapiro explained: “So right now, geopolitically, this is a contained conflict,” the 39-year-old said. “This is Israel versus Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and everyone of good heart on every side, you hope that it remains that way.”
“Hezbollah … is on Israel’s northern border and is an Iranian client; Hezbollah is a massive and significantly more powerful than Hamas terrorist group that exists and has a say in the government of Lebanon. Again, Israel is surrounded on a lot of sides by terrorist groups that masquerade as governments. Hezbollah has about 150,000 much more sophisticated rockets than Hamas, pointed at northern Israel.”
“Everyone understands that if Hezbollah, which would only do this at the behest of Iran, if Hezbollah were to get [involved], Israel would then be stretched militarily to the point where they would not have any choice but to go full force.”
“Once you are stretched to the point of extermination, all bets are off and the Israeli air force will have to be unleashed on the southern border of Lebanon,” Shapiro said. “At that point, you’d have to imagine that Bashar Assad in Syria starts to get active, Iran starts to get active. So … the possible good reason why [Biden] didn’t mention Iran, is because he’s attempting to keep Iran out of the war.”
Shapiro also shared that Biden carefully warned Iran not to engage further in the conflict, noting Biden said: “Any other group that wants to get in: ‘Don’t.’”
Shapiro concluded: “There’s a very plausible bad reason why he didn’t mention Iran, which is to avoid the blowback from his own idiotic Iran policy. And there’s a possible good reason, which is that he’s attempting to avoid the broadening of the conflict.”
