The president of the United States has a serious problem — he cannot speak off prompter and often misspeaks when using a prompter.
Widely referred to as the “Gaffer In Chief,” on Monday, President Biden said that the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, occurred more than 100 years ago.
The latest gaffe occurred when Biden was speaking at a White House event, marking the passage of a bipartisan gun bill.
“Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, 1918, 17 dead, 17 injured,” Biden proclaimed as he tried to make a case for banning all “assault weapons,” previously described by the president as any weapon with a magazine capable of holding more than ten rounds.
The Parkland shooting occurred on Feb. 14, 2018.
Notable is that Biden seems much more focused on banning weapons than addressing systemic problems facilitating the violence. In both the Parkland and more recent Uvalde, Texas, shootings, the shooters suffered from mental illness and had dysfunctional home lives, and security personnel who could have stopped or mitigated the incidents were found to be negligent.
Nevertheless, Biden is using these incidents to move forward “red flag laws among other measures,” according to Fox News.
The father of one of the Parkland victims was in attendance at Monday’s “celebration” where Biden was speaking. Offended and frustrated, he interrupted the president’s speech.
Earlier, the father, Manuel Oliver, noted that Biden’s focus was misplaced and expressed anger that Monday’s event was called a “celebration.”
“The word CELEBRATION has no space in a society that saw 19 kids massacred just a month ago. ‘Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.’ Not me, not Joaquin.”
Biden responded to the interruption by saying, “Sit down; you’ll hear what I have to say. Let me finish my comment.”
Oliver was escorted from the event. No report as of yet has indicated whether or not charges will be filed. A Fox News report, however, noted that in 2006, the interruption of a ceremony involving then-President George W. Bush and Chinese President Hu Jintao led to the female heckler facing criminal charges.
