President Joe Biden caused a small stir today when he digressed from a speech commemorating Obamacare’s thirteenth anniversary to announce that he “like[s] babies better than people.” The declaration came when a baby began wailing during Biden’s remarks.
It was on the previous day in this same room that Biden announced his intent to “keep guns out of the hands of domestic political advisers.”
The correction — it appears he meant to say abusers, not political advisers — was circulated just moments before Biden took the stage to announce his establishment of both a new demarcation and a new hierarchy between babyhood and peoplehood, a shift that would infuriate abortion rights activists while leaving advocates of childhood completely out in the cold — were it serious, of course, and not just another minor gaffe.
Following the conclusion of his remarks, Biden held the infant believed to have been the source of the noise, the Post reported. Baby Hodge, the son of Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), appeared to have settled down and to approve of President Biden more than most Americans; the gaffe and subsequent baby-holding happened as new polling showed Biden’s approval dropping 7% since February.
Biden certainly is no stranger to gaffes onstage and, although this incident was harmless and could even be passed off as a joke, it comes at a time when others have joined conservatives in questioning the president’s cognitive abilities.
Biden did, however, recently undergo a health examination, although critics expressed concern that the report contained no evidence of any cognitive testing.
