President Joe Biden made waves during his recent appearance on ABC’s “The View,” sporting a pin featuring the United States and Ukrainian flags side by side.
The 81-year-old Democrat’s fashion choice ignited a firestorm of controversy, particularly among conservative viewers who saw it as a slight against American interests.
“Sleepy Joe wore his Ukraine pin like a good little puppet,” one X user quipped in response to a Trump War Room post that read, “Democrats are the party of violence.”
As Biden stepped onto the stage of the popular daytime talk show, he was greeted with a standing ovation from the hosts and audience.
The president’s small jog and warm reception didn’t go unnoticed, with host Sara Haines likening his presence to “having one of the Beatles at the table.”
It was the pin adorning Biden’s lapel that quickly became the focal point of discussion, however.
Right-wing outlets like TownHall promptly highlighted the president’s accessory on X.
The post sparked a heated debate, with supporters defending Biden’s gesture as a show of solidarity with an ally, while critics accused him of prioritizing foreign interests over domestic concerns.
The pin controversy comes on the heels of Biden’s final address to the U.N. General Assembly, where he urged continued support for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
“We cannot grow weary,” Biden implored the international community, as outlined by Daily Mail. “We cannot look away.”
During his appearance on “The View,” Biden didn’t shy away from addressing his political rival, President Donald Trump.
In some of his harshest criticism to date, Biden questioned Trump’s understanding of democracy, stating, “There’s not a lot of social redeeming value there. He really does not – does not – believe in democracy.”
During another point of the sit down, host Whoopi Goldberg compared Trump to a bug, to which Biden then imitated smashing a bug dead on the table.
“Is this incitement to violence?” Libs of TikTok questioned. “Just imagine if Trump did this.”
Dom Lucre posted, “It is worth noting that this comes after to failed assassination attempts on Donald Trump’s life.”
Another user wrote, “In an America already on edge with not one, but TWO assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump, and with the chilling news of FIVE active assassination teams lurking in the shadows, you’d think a call for decorum would be in order.”
“But no, the incitement continues, unchecked and unabashed,” he added during one part of his lengthy X post.
The president also touched on his recent decision to exit the 2024 presidential race during the episode, maintaining that he could have defeated Trump but chose to prioritize the country’s interests.
“I love my country more,” Biden explained, echoing a sentiment he’s expressed repeatedly since stepping down.
Despite the controversy surrounding his Ukraine pin, Biden received effusive praise from “The View” hosts.
Whoopi Goldberg thanked him for “everything you have done in my lifetime,” while Joy Behar appreciated his affectionate demeanor, calling him “a kissy guy.”
