Embattled President Joe Biden is slipping in the polls with most projecting he would lose in an anticipated head-to-head rematch against former President Donald Trump in 2024.
On Wednesday, Biden was pressed by reporters on growing evidence indicating he was not truthful in depicting his knowledge, and possible working relationship, of foreign business dealings coordinated by his son Hunter and brother James.
In response to questions from the New York Post, Biden, 81, repeatedly repudiated reports that Biden received income from foreign interests and discussed business matters with Hunter and James on multiple occasions.
Two House investigative committees have claimed Biden used his political office to effect policies advantageous to foreign interests in exchange for payments obscured via lavish salaries for Hunter and direct payments processed through almost two dozen shell companies.
The investigative committees are considering Impeachment proceedings as they investigate Biden’s business ties to China, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Russia and Ukraine.
Referring to the accusations as “lies,” Biden told the Post: “I did not. And it’s just a bunch of lies. They’re lies. I did not. They’re lies.”
A recent Associated Press poll showed that “68% of voters — including 40% of Democrats — believe Biden acted unethically or illegally with regard to his family’s business dealings,” according to the Post.
Biden vehemently denied accusations made by Trump during a presidential debate just weeks before the 2020 election, which Biden won and Trump continues to contest.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) recently shared harsh words about President Biden:
“President Biden continues to lie to the American people about his interactions related to his family cashing in on the Biden name. We have produced evidence revealing Joe Biden spoke, dined, took meetings, and had coffee with his son’s foreign business associates.”
Comer added: “We have also produced evidence of how foreign cash landed in Joe Biden’s bank account. We will continue to expose President Biden’s lies and hold him accountable for his corruption.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) also blasted Biden, writing on X:
“The President just lied again to the American people. FACT: There are at least 22 examples of Joe Biden speaking with or meeting with Hunter Biden’s foreign business associates.”
Following damning accusations by whistleblowers by members of the FBI and Hunter’s former business associate Devon Archer, the House Oversite Committee alleges that Joe Biden attended dinners with Hunter’s business clients, including Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings.
The Post reported that Burisma “paid Hunter up to $1 million per year beginning in April 2014 to serve on its board,” though he had no qualifications for the position.
The Post previously reported that an FBI informant told Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that Burisma owner Mykola Zlochevsky was “coerced” into paying $10 million in bribes to Joe and Hunter Biden in exchange for the then-vice president’s help in ousting Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.
Biden supporter Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) defended the president and noted the distinction between being on the phone and sharing a few pleasantries and being involved in Hunter’s business dealings, saying, “There were niceties. And there was a hello. And [they] talked about the weather or whatever it was. … It was never any business.”
IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley testified before Congress that Biden was in the meeting to intimidate and influence certain decisions and phone call outcomes.
In one memo, Hunter reportedly wrote: “I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.
“Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight,” Hunter added, warning he would “make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction.”
Notably, within two weeks of that memo, Biden accounts received $5.1 million, which was in addition to the more than $1 million transferred to the Bidens earlier that year.
