President Joe Biden has finally revealed why he chose to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to obtain the Democratic Party’s nomination.
In his first interview since withdrawing his candidacy for president, Biden spoke with CBS News, where he explained why he stepped aside.
“Although it’s a great honor to be a president, I think I have an obligation to the country to do what I — most important thing you can do. And that is — we must, we must, we must defeat Trump,” Biden said.
The president said that when he initially ran against Trump in 2020, he felt he would serve as a “transition president.”
“When I ran the first time, I thought of myself as being a transition president,” Biden said. “I can’t even say how old I am — it’s hard for me to get it out of my mouth.”
Biden left the race after facing mounting pressure from high-ranking Democrats to do so, with many citing the president’s old age and poor debate performance against his predecessor.
At first, the president was defiant to stay in the race, saying that only God could lead him to depart.
However, days after saying such, Biden dropped out as prominent Democrats went after him and reports emerged indicating that some were threatening to remove the president from office by using the 25th Amendment.
After Biden bowed out of the race, he endorsed Harris.
During his interview with CBS News, Biden expressed his fear that the outcome of the 2024 election could spark violence across the U.S.
“All the stuff about if we lose, there’ll be a bloodbath, it’s a stolen – look what they’re trying to do now in the local election districts where people count the votes, putting people in place in states where they’re going to count the votes,” he said.
“You can’t love your country, only when you win,” he added.
As Resist the Mainstream previously reported, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) admitted to being one of the Democrats to pressure Biden into stepping aside, shedding light on reports that there was a “coup” to oust the president.
In a recent interview with the New Yorker, Pelosi said that although she holds high praise for Biden, she wanted him to decide the future of the Democratic Party.
“I think he’s been a really fantastic president of the United States,” Pelosi said. “So I really wanted him to make a decision of a better campaign.”
“Because they were not facing the fact of what was happening,” she added. “Just a little background. I’ve never been that impressed with his political operation.”
The interviewer was so surprised by Pelosi’s comments that he asked her to issue a clarification.
“Yeah, I’m not. I mean, I just haven’t. They won the White House, bravo,” Pelosi said when asked if she was impressed about Biden’s political decisions.
“But so my concern was this ain’t happening and we have to make a decision for this to happen and the president has to make the decision for that to happen. Let me just say, I won’t say necessarily I knew what I was doing at that time. I knew what I was doing in the whole thing, not just that ship,” the California congresswoman added.
