Boebert’s Son Arrested on Sickening Charges

A warrant more than two years in the making caught up with Tyler Jay Boebert this past weekend, landing Rep. Lauren Boebert‘s 21-year-old son behind bars on felony sex crime charges.

Garfield County deputies executed the arrest Sunday, closing out an investigation that authorities had quietly pursued since 2024.

Five felony counts now stand against the congresswoman’s eldest child.

Prosecutors split the charges into two categories: three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

At the center of the case sits explicit material allegedly showing Boebert with a girl who was still a minor when the material was created.

Investigators built their case around a specific claim: that Boebert recorded himself having sexual intercourse with the girl, then shared that recording afterward. He was 18 at the time, according to the allegations, and she was 17.

A tip through Colorado’s Safe2Tell program set the wheels in motion back in 2024. That anonymous reporting system exists specifically to flag safety concerns before they escalate.

From there, detectives zeroed in on explicit videos they say circulated through social media channels, building the evidence base that ultimately produced this week’s charges.

Prosecutors broke the conduct into distinct legal theories: inducing or enticing a child into sexually exploitative material, possessing that material with intent to distribute it, and a separate charge tied directly to the video recording.

The two delinquency counts round out the filing.

Jail records show deputies booked Boebert into the Garfield County facility on August 9. His stay was brief — he posted a $10,000 surety bond and walked out that same day.

A court date now looms on August 19, when Boebert is required to appear and the case will begin moving through the system in earnest.

Lauren Boebert broke her silence on the arrest with a short public statement.

“I love my son,” she said, adding that she recognized the seriousness of what he’s accused of and offering prayers for those involved.

This latest arrest doesn’t stand alone. Tyler Boebert already carries a rap sheet built over the past two years, and this case now sits atop a growing pile of legal exposure.

Back in February 2024, deputies arrested him in connection with a series of car break-ins and thefts across Garfield County, where he and others allegedly used stolen credit cards lifted from the vehicles.

That case ended in a plea deal, with sentencing still pending.

A separate 2025 case out of Weld County adds another layer — a child abuse charge to which Boebert already pleaded guilty. A judge will sentence him in that matter on September 4.

Just days later, on September 10, a second sentencing hearing awaits him in the vehicle theft and trespassing case. The newly unsealed felony charges now hang over both of those pending sentencing dates.

None of Boebert’s prior cases approach the severity of what he now faces. The exploitation charges carry the heaviest legal weight of any case brought against him to date.

While her son’s legal troubles mount, Lauren Boebert is simultaneously fighting to hold her congressional seat.

She’s seeking reelection in Colorado’s 4th District, a seat she claimed after switching districts ahead of the 2024 election.

She previously represented the state’s 3rd Congressional District for years before making that political jump. Voters in the reliably Republican 4th District backed her decisively in the transition.

Democrat Eileen Laubacher stands as her opponent this cycle, and the timing of her son’s arrest places the story directly inside an active campaign.

Legally, Tyler Boebert remains innocent of the newly filed counts. No conviction has been entered, and under the justice system, the charges remain unproven allegations until a court says otherwise.

His August 19 appearance will mark the first real test of how prosecutors intend to argue the case — and how his defense plans to counter it.

Court watchers in Garfield County expect the case to draw continued scrutiny as pretrial proceedings unfold in the weeks ahead.

Whether Rep. Boebert issues further comment beyond her initial statement remains an open question as the case develops.

Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son, Tyler, has been arrested on child exploitation charges for making a sex tape with his then-girlfriend, age 17, just two weeks before her 18th birthday, when he was 18.
