President Donald Trump reportedly agreed with conservative activist Laura Loomer during a private conversation that support for Israel is weakening within American politics and among Republican voters.
According to an interview Loomer gave to The New York Times, she warned Trump two months ago that he could become “the last pro-Israel president” the US ever has.
Loomer said Trump responded to the remark by telling her, “You’re right,” according to the interview discussing changing political attitudes surrounding Israel and the Middle East.
The White House did not directly deny the reported exchange when questioned about the conversation involving Trump and Loomer.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly instead described Israel as “a great ally to the United States” and praised cooperation between the two countries involving regional security matters.
Loomer acknowledged during the interview that public opinion regarding Israel has shifted, including among Republican voters and figures associated with Trump’s political movement.
“I don’t foresee the GOP being as explicitly pro-Israel anymore,” Loomer told the newspaper while discussing changing views among conservative activists and Republican voters nationwide.
Loomer also suggested Israel should prepare for the possibility of losing US military assistance once the current 10-year, $38 billion aid package expires in 2028.
The comments come as Trump continues pressing for a potential diplomatic agreement involving Iran while simultaneously warning Tehran against pursuing nuclear weapons capabilities.
According to reports, Trump administration envoys including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are negotiating a proposed framework agreement with Iranian officials.
The reported proposal would reportedly include sanctions relief, release of frozen Iranian assets and limitations on Iran’s uranium enrichment activities for more than a decade.
Trump has publicly insisted Iran cannot obtain nuclear weapons while also signaling support for a negotiated settlement designed to reduce tensions and avoid broader military conflict in the region, as the Daily Mail reported.
“Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to,” Trump wrote on Truth Social while discussing the proposed framework involving sanctions and regional security issues.
“If they don’t agree, the bombing starts,” Trump added while warning Iran about possible military consequences if negotiations fail to produce an agreement acceptable to the administration.
Vice President J.D. Vance also recently suggested at a public event that Israel’s interests do not always perfectly align with those of the US government.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly remains skeptical of Iranian diplomatic overtures and is considering additional military action if negotiations collapse.
