The boyfriend of slain mother Rachel Morin has broken his silence about the death of his beloved, referring to Morin’s supposed murderer as a “scum bag” in a recent post on Facebook.
Morin, a resident of Maryland, disappeared earlier this month; the discovery of her body the subsequent day has led to a yet-unresolved investigation into the disturbing death of the 37-year-old woman.
“Please help identify this scum bag #ripRachelmorin,” Richard Tobin, 27, said.
“I hope they found this scum of the earth. Justice for Rachel. Rip. Love you, Rach,” Tobin said.
The relationship between Tobin and Morin became official merely four days before her mysterious disappearance on August 5 during a jog on the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air. Authorities discovered her lifeless body the next day, brutally murdered in a wooded area off the trail. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office revealed a significant lead during a news conference. They confirmed that DNA from the crime scene matched DNA from a Los Angeles home invasion and assault that occurred in March.
“Unfortunately, that suspect hasn’t been positively identified,” Chief Deputy Col. William Davis said.
Details about the alleged perpetrator have been released. The man, captured in surveillance footage post the Los Angeles assault, is described as Hispanic who is 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 160 pounds. The Los Angeles Police Department has been actively collaborating with Harford officials, sharing crucial information.
The Morin family’s attorney, Joseph Murtha, conveyed the family’s grief and determination for justice.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Rachel Morin, and our hearts go out to her family during this difficult time,” Murtha said. “Our firm is committed to providing support to the Morin family as justice is pursued.”
The community plans to commemorate Morin’s life with two events. A walk on the Ma & Pa Heritage trail is scheduled for Saturday, followed by a celebration of life at the Greater Grace Church of Baltimore on Sunday.
Tobin’s past has been a subject of speculation, especially since he was one of the last individuals to see Morin alive. Some online commentators even insinuated his involvement in her death. Tobin, however, vehemently denies these allegations.
“I love Rachel, I would never do anything to her, let the family and I grieve. Yes, I have a past, but I also have 15 months clean and have changed as a person. Please,” Tobin said.
The authorities continue their investigation and urge anyone with pertinent information about Morin’s disappearance or death to come forward. The pursuit of justice remains paramount, and the community hopes for a swift resolution to this harrowing case.
