“Lighten up about the knives,” Britney Spears said, asserting that her actions were merely an imitation of Shakira’s recent performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Despite Spears’ attempt to assuage concerns, the sight of her dancing with knives left many unconvinced of her well-being.
“I started playing in the kitchen with knives today !!! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives !!! Halloween is soon !!!” Spears said in the original post that garnered widespread attention. Despite her assurance, a later post showed her with a bandage on her arm, no longer dancing with the knives, further fueling the concerns of her followers.
“Those poor dogs just ran scared they need to be rescued and she needs HELP,” a commenter said, expressing concern not only for Spears but also for her pets visible in the background of the video.
The debate over Spears’ mental stability intensified, with comments highlighting her continuous dancing in the same spot and now the addition of knives to her routine.
“Look at this. The debate is over. Britney Spears is insane and can’t take care of herself. At this point we even have to ask if she could be a danger to others,” a follower wrote. Despite the concerns, some fans defended Spears, asserting the knives were fake and comparing her actions to Shakira’s performance.
“Shakira did this in front of millions yet not one person said s**t,” one person wrote. “This isn’t a big deal, it’s literally fake knives.”
The incident adds to the ongoing public scrutiny of Spears’ life and mental health, especially following the termination of her nearly 14-year conservatorship controlled by her father Jamie Spears in November 2021.
