Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed in a post on Twitter on Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 as he faces thousands of protesters surrounding the nation’s capital in a massive truck convoy seeking freedom from his vaccine mandates.
“This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19. I’m feeling fine – and I’ll continue to work remotely this week while following public health guidelines. Everyone, please get vaccinated and get boosted,” Trudeau wrote.
The prime minister is fully vaccinated and reportedly received his booster shot earlier this month on January 4. [And now has COVID anyway. And is still mandating vaccinations for truckers to…prevent them from catching COVID.]
“Got my booster shot this morning. To everyone out there who’s gotten their shots, and to the health care workers who are getting these shots into arms, thank you for doing your part. And to anyone who’s eligible but hasn’t yet been vaccinated or boosted, please, do that now,” he wrote.
The announcement came after the prime minister was criticized for disappearing to an undisclosed location on Saturday over alleged safety concerns after a peaceful truck convoy surrounded the capital of Ottawa.
Trudeau also received harsh pushback last week after referring to the truck convoy as a “small fringe majority.” The prime minister shared the comments in response to a reporter’s question on the Truckers for Freedom convoy.
“The small, fringe minority of people who are on their way to Ottawa, who are holding unacceptable views that they are expressing, do not represent the views of Canadians who have been there for each other, who know that following the science and stepping up to protect each other is the best way to continue to ensure our freedoms, our rights, our values as a country,” Trudeau said.
