A Canadian school board’s woke policies have fueled multiple controversies — not the least of which is the saga of Kayla Lemieux, a reportedly trans high school shop instructor who wears “Z-cup prosthetic breasts” and suggestive clothing in class.
When students and parents complained about the teacher’s non-professional dress — tight shirts revealing protruding nipples and short shorts, the school board initially sided with the teacher. Additional complaints escalated the matter to regional leaders and caught the attention of the international press.
After much deliberation and consideration of photos that reportedly show Lemieux dressing provocatively while at school and not at home, the board put the teacher on paid administrative leave.
Lemieux, however, insisted in an interview with the Post not knowing who “the man in the photos was” and said, “I’m not wearing prosthetic breasts. These are real.”
Lemieux told the Post: “This is who I am. This is how I look. You’ve been talking to people in my building but what they’re telling you is harsh and untrue. I am always going out looking the way I am.”
The teacher told the Post that hormone replacement therapy began in 2021, claimed being born “intersex,” and insisted the Z-cup breasts resulted from a medical condition called “gigantomastia” but admitted medical officials had not made that diagnosis.
Halton District School Board spokesperson Heather Francey told the Toronto Sun: “While not currently on an active assignment, the teacher remains employed.
According to a report in the Sun, Lemieux’s suspension follows a stinging repudiation of the school board by Education Minister Stephen Lecce and Halton Region MPPs Natalie Pierre, Stephen Crawford, and Effie Triantafilopoulos. The notable leaders rebuked the school board for having “abdicated its responsibility by failing to put the interests and safety of students first.”
On Wednesday, a parent identified as Lynn told the school board that “forms of identity and expression presented in the school environment [must] be scrutinized against the child’s safeguarding practices.”
According to the New York Post, the board’s monthslong silence enraged parents and led to “threats of violence against Lemieux and school officials.”
The Post also noted that several meetings of Board of Education officials “descended into chaos” as it attempted to resolve the issue.
Dissatisfaction with the board led disgruntled parents to take matters into their own hands. They organized a GoFundMe account to put legal pressure on the board to act, which contributed to Lemieux’s suspension.
