A new report by the New York Post alleges that CBS seized personal files belonging to one of their own journalists who was investigating the Hunter Biden laptop scandal.
The journalist, Catherine Herridge, is currently in the midst of a closely watched First Amendment case and was one of 20 CBS News staffers who was fired by the parent company Paramount Global.
“They never seize documents [when you’re let go],” a source close to the network told the Post. “They want to see what damaging documents she has.”
A CBS spokesperson refuted claims that the network intended to keep Herridge’s personal belongings.
“We have respected her request to not go through the files, and out of our concern for confidential sources, the office she occupied has remained secure since her departure,” the representative said.
“We are prepared to pack up the rest of her files immediately on her behalf – with her representative present as she requested.”
Herridge is currently embroiled in a legal controversy concerning her journalism, stemming from her refusal to cooperate with U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper’s order to divulge how she became aware of a federal investigation of a Chinese American scientist working in a graduate program in Virginia. She is liable to be held in contempt of court for refusing to divulge her source for an article she wrote on behalf of Fox News in 2017.
