On Wednesday, CNN senior news anchor Wolf Blitzer posted a picture of himself in front of the United States Capitol Building to commemorate the 9-month anniversary since protesters stormed the building on January 6, and some Twitter users responded with mockery.
Blitzer’s comments: On October 6, nine months after protesters stormed the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., Blitzer posted a picture of himself along with a solemn caption to mark the occasion, eliciting ridicule from the Twitter world for what they took as unnecessary focus on the fact that the event occurred nine months ago and his strange inclusion of a selfie in front of the Capitol.
On Wednesday afternoon, CNN’s lead political anchor posted the selfie in front of the Capitol with the following caption: “Nine months ago today – on Jan. 6, 2021 – an angry mob attacked the U.S. Capitol. I walked around the complex today and it was very calm. As you know, the perimeter security fence is gone – at least for now.”
Twitter’s response: “Hard hitting journalism right here,” one user replied. “Are we doing this the 6th of every month Wolf?”
Another user wrote, mockingly, “People who note 9 month anniversaries: 1. Teenage girls 2. Wolf Blitzer.”
“Slow day at @CNN? No one cares,” posted a different user.
Some called out what they viewed as a double-standard, because they believe Blitzer was not as critical of other protests in the country that led to looting and burning buildings.
“I remember when an angry mob did this in same area and not one Democrat condemned this,” wrote one user, along with a picture of fires on the streets of Washington, D.C.
“Whaaaatttttt????” wrote another user. “Oh you mean the protest ? Like all those where looting and burning and violence took place night after night and people’s lives and businesses were burnt to the ground? When are you taking a walk around those spots Wolf.”
