Sad news: On Monday, Illinois Democratic Congressman Sean Casten announced the death of his 17-year-old daughter, Gwen.
Beyond a brief announcement, neither Casten nor his office have provided further details on her death.
“This morning, Congressman Casten’s beloved daughter, Gwen (17), passed away,” a statement from Casten’s office read. “The Casten family requests privacy, and we will be issuing no further comment during this heartbreaking time.”
The Chicago Tribune cited a local police report and noted that Gwen died in the family’s Downers Grove home.
“Downers Grove police were called to respond to a report of an ‘unresponsive’ 17-year-old girl at a home on the block where Casten lives just before 7 a.m. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the outlet.”
According to Fox News, Police were called to the Casten home around 6:48 a.m. for an unresponsive 17-year-old female and determined that she was deceased.
The DuPage County Coroner is reportedly investigating the cause of death.
Sean was proud of his daughter and quick to praise her for her support of his campaign and initiatives.
Running for his third term as a congressman, Sean noted with excitement that Gwen would be voting in her first election this fall.
The RTM staff offers their condolences to the Casten family.
