A Clovis, California, Costco employee has received considerable public recognition for displaying honesty by reporting his find of an envelope containing nearly $4,000.
John Sotelo was stocking cases of water at the Clovis warehouse store when he noticed an envelope on one of the pallets, according to an ABC 7 report.
Inside, he found $3,940 in cash, the report noted.
Without hesitation, Sotelo informed the store’s management about his discovery.
Store employees were able to identify the owner of the envelope by examining the Costco membership card inside it and reviewing video surveillance footage.
“It was crazy because my manager walked me outside, and the member was right there,” Sotelo said during an interview with ABC 7.
The shopper who left the cash-filled envelope behind was still on the premises, according to the report, and was soon reunited with the wayward wad of cash.
“Oh, you know, I’m so glad you found this,” the grateful shopper responded. “That’s for my kids to go to school.”
“Okay, you know, well, I’m happy to help,” Sotelo replied.
Earlier in August, Sotelo had expressed his aspiration to be recognized as the employee of the month.
His recent display of integrity ensured that he achieved his goal, according to a report from Breitbart News.
