A Texas singer-songwriter’s Sunday death at the age of 59 was announced in a a Facebook post by his wife.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that my husband, Charlie Robison has passed away today, surrounded by his family and friends,” his wife Kristen revealed on Facebook.
“My heart is broken,” she continued. “Please pray for me, our children and our family.”
The country music community mourns the loss of Charlie Robison, known for his 1998 album “Life of the Party,” a significant contribution to modern Texas music, according to a WFTV 9 report.
Robison’s sister and fellow singer-songwriter Robyn Ludwick also noted his passing in a separate post to Facebook, sharing that Robison “passed in the arms of his loved ones.”
The country music artist died of cardiac arrest at a San Antonio, Texas, hospital, according to an Associated Press report.
Born in Houston on September 1, 1964, Robison spent his formative years on his family’s ranch in Bandera, situated in the Hill Country northwest of San Antonio.
A football injury while matriculating at Southwest Texas State University shifted his focus to music, the report noted. He had been nurturing his songwriting skills since the age of 15.
Robison’s musical career began with the release of “Bandera” in 1995, hinting at brilliance to follow. His 1998 album “Life of the Party” featured notable singles such as “Poor Man’s Son” and “Indianola.”
In 2001, Robison made his major label debut with Columbia Records through the album “Step Right Up,” according to the report.
The album included his only Top 40 country single, “I Want You So Bad,” the report noted.
His 2004 album “Good Times” showcased his rendition of Keith Gattis’ ballad “El Cerrito Place,” later covered by Kenny Chesney in 2012. Robison’s final album, “High Life,” featured a cover of Bob Dylan’s classic “When I Paint My Masterpiece.”
Robison’s personal life also made headlines when he married Emily Erwin (now Strayer) of the Chicks in 1998.
Their love story inspired the song “Cowboy Take Me Away,” by the Chicks, the report noted. The couple had three children together before separating in 2008.
