On Thursday, country star Zach Bryan was arrested by police in Oklahoma on an obstruction of investigation charge.
According to the Craig County inmate search, Bryan was arrested in Vinita, Oklahoma, at 6:42 p.m.
A statement released by Bryan explained that he “was out of line,” and added that he was “frustrated in the moment,” confirming that he was arrested and taken to the local jail.
“Today I had an incident with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Emotions got the best of me and I was out of line in the things I said. I support law enforcement as much as anyone can, I was just frustrated in the moment, it was unlike me and I apologize,” he wrote on Twitter. “They brought me to jail, and there is a mug shot of me floating around. Prayers we can all move on from this and prayers people know I’m just trying the best I can, I love you guys and I am truly sorry to the officers.”
Bryan also posted a video early Friday morning, explaining the situation further.
“I’ve got seven Red Bulls in me. And I just wanted to be completely transparent with everyone who listens to my music about what happened with me yesterday,” Bryan said in a video posted after his initial statement. “I have to deal with the legalities of it. I did go to jail … I was an idiot today. And my decisions did not reflect who I was as a person. I should have been smarter about it.”
Bryan describes the encounter with an officer, who he says demanded his address during a traffic stop. When Bryan initially refused to provide his address, he says he was handcuffed, but says the officer eventually let him go.
Later, Bryan says police stopped his security guard who was driving in a different vehicle on their way to Boston. The music artist says that he, “like a dumbass,” got impatient and “too lippy” with the officer, who then threatened to arrest him.
“I felt like a child. It was ridiculous. It was immature. And I just pray everyone knows I don’t think I’m above the law. I was just being disrespectful and I shouldn’t have been. And it was my mistake,” Bryan added.
Bryan said he was being rude to the officer while he was in handcuffs and eventually shook hands with the officer after being released from the jail cell.
Bryan recently released his second studio album on Aug. 25, 2023, self-titled “Zach Bryan.” His collaboration on the album with Kacey Musgraves “I Remember Everything” is currently sitting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
