Prince Harry is coming under fire for criticizing the First Amendment as “bonkers,” including from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
What he said: The Duke of Sussex made the comments during an appearance on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s “Armchair Expert” podcast last week. He was discussing leaving Britain with his wife, Megan Markle, and settling in the U.S. At one point, Prince Harry mentioned what he described as the media “freezing frenzy.”
“I don’t want to start sort of going down the First Amendment route because that’s a huge subject and one in which I don’t understand because I’ve only been here a short period of time, But, you can find a loophole in anything. And you can capitalize or exploit what’s not said rather than uphold what is said,” he said.
“I’ve got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers,” Prince Harry added.
Critics blasted him for taking aim at the First Amendment.
Sen. Cruz tweeted in response: “Nice that he can say that.”
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) also weighed in.
“He’s such a tiresome flog. Shut up, Harry,” tweeted Australian newspaper columnist Rita Panahi.
“For Prince Harry to condemn the USA’s First Amendment shows he has lost the plot. Soon he will not be wanted on either side of the pond,” Former Brexit leader Nigel Farage wrote.
“I wonder if he also thinks the Fourth Amendment is ‘bollocks’ and the 14th Amendment is ‘pish-posh,’” said conservative author and podcast host, Dinesh D’Souza.
“Sunday Riddle: How many more Hollywood-style interviews will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle give before they finally achieve the privacy they claim to be so desperate for?” added conservative commentator and Daily Wire host Candace Owens.
“Don’t let the door knob hit you, Windsor,” Fox News’ Laura Ingraham responded.
Meanwhile, Harry also accused popular podcast host Joe Rogan of spreading misinformation because of his remarks about coronavirus vaccines. Rogan said on his podcast that young, healthy people do nor need to get vaccinated.
“The issue is in today’s world with misinformation endemic, you’ve got to be careful about what comes out of your mouth,” Harry said, adding that “with a platform comes responsibility” and that people who are not professionals should “stay out of it.”
