A female investigator shot herself in the leg last Friday — in the Fulton County, Georgia, courthouse restroom.
ABC News was the first to report the incident, which occurred in the same courthouse former President Trump was arraigned earlier this month.
An early report by MSN included a brief statement by the Fulton County Sheriff’s office: “The investigator is alert, conscious, and breathing,” the email statement read.
The county sheriff’s office, which is responsible for courthouse security, added that the investigator “was not critically wounded” and received immediate aid from a responding sheriff’s deputy until paramedics arrived and transported the investigator to a local hospital.
According to local news affiliate Fox 5, the investigator’s weapon discharged when she was in “a handicap-accessible bathroom” located on the fourth floor of the building.
Former prosecutor Ash Joshi confirmed it was an “accidental shooting.” Local police, however, have launched an investigation into the incident.
The investigator’s name has not been released at this time. Though serious, the incident did not result in life-threatening injury.
