On Sunday, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) admitted that Hunter Biden’s latest prosecution is “legally justified,” noting that President Joe Biden’s son isn’t the one on the ballot in 2024.
“I think this is a very troubled individual who has, who has done things that are worthy of prosecution,” Murphy said on NBC News’s Meet the Press. He said he looks forward to seeing the case against Hunter Biden continue; however, he added, “The American people understand that Hunter Biden is not going to be on the ballot next fall — that Joe Biden is going to be on the ballot.”
Last week, Hunter Biden was hit with nine new tax charges, three felonies and six misdemeanors. The charges are in addition to his previous indictment for tax-related misdemeanors and a failed plea deal over firearm charges filed over the summer.
Murphy then attempted to turn attention to former President Donald Trump and his family, saying, “It seems that they have made an industry out of profiting off of Donald Trump’s presidency.”
Murphy pointed to Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and his business dealings with Saudi Arabia, saying, “I think the American public are going to be very concerned about what has happened inside the Trump family since Donald Trump left the White House.”
Host Kristen Welker pushed back on the comment, reminding the senator that she asked about Biden’s son, not Trump’s.
Murphy then reiterated, “I think Hunter Biden is going to be held accountable in court for any violations of the law that he’s committed, and the American public is gonna get the chance to watch that play out in real-time.”
He proceeded to, again, shift the discussion, this time to the 2024 election, which is now most likely to be a rematch between Biden and Trump. He claimed he was “certain” the country would see a significant difference between the two and vote against another Trump presidency.
He also claimed that the Trump administration is “going to criminalize abortion, is going to give more handouts to billionaires and the wealthy,” simultaneously touting Biden, crediting him with recovering the United States economy, despite the abysmal ratings that Americans continue to give the economy and the collective blame on the Biden administration’s policies.
