As the 2024 election approaches, Democrats are developing their strategy to regain control in the House and extend their advantage in the Senate.
On Monday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced they are targeting 31 House Republicans and seeking to place Democrats in two seats that will become open as Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) have announced they will step down to run for Senate seats.
The DCCC, the Democratic Party’s campaign arm, reported prioritizing flipping seven Republican seats in California and six in New York.
DCCC executive director Julie Merz told NBC News that Democrats would attempt to link Republican candidates to former President Donald Trump and the Freedom Caucus, both of whom she cast as radical and extreme.
“There are no more Republican moderates,” Merz claimed. “They had an opportunity very early in the speaker’s vote to stand up to the most vocal MAGA extremists and say, ‘This isn’t OK. This isn’t the direction we want our caucus to go.’ And they folded.”
Reportedly, 18 of the 31 Republican House members the DCCC is targeting are freshman representatives.
Republicans have announced a similar plan for the 2024 election cycle. The Daily Caller reported the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has targeted 35 Democratic House members and will attempt to “flip the seats vacated by Porter and Slotkin.”
