One day after announcing his bid to become the GOP nominee for president, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced campaign events in 12 cities next week.
Hitting the ground running, DeSantis will “kick-off” a four-day “Our Great American Comeback” on Tuesday — the first stop is Des Moines, Iowa.
Next week’s campaign events include stops in the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
DeSantis formally announced his intent to run for president on Wednesday evening. The DeSantis’ campaign was the first of any, perhaps done to put some distance between DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, to make the announcement of his candidacy on Twitter.
DeSantis has the support of Twitter CEO Elon Musk.
In his announcement, DeSantis touted Florida’s record of successfully pushing back on woke initiatives and stated he wanted to do the same for America:
“The pledge I’ll make for people is simply this. We need to win again as Republicans. We gotta dispense with this culture of losing,” DeSantis said. “And if you nominate me, I pledge to you that on Jan. 20, 2025, at high noon, that I’ll be the guy in the west side of the Capitol with the left hand on the Bible.”
Campaign manager Generra Peck followed DeSantis’ announcement by saying: “We are laser-focused on taking Governor DeSantis’ forward-thinking message for restoring America to every potential voter in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.”
Peck added: “Our campaign is committed to putting in the time to win these early nominating states. No one will work harder than Governor DeSantis to share his vision with the country — he has only begun to fight.”
DeSantis’ highly-anticipated announcement presented technical difficulties for the Twitter platform. The surge of more than 700,000 viewers temporarily crashed the system.
Still, the DeSantis team viewed Wednesday’s event as a success with approximately 18,000,000 views and $1,000,000 raised within 24 hours.
The Washington Examiner reported that DeSantis joins a crowded GOP primary field. Candidates include former President Donald Trump, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and conservative radio personality Larry Elder. Former Vice President Mike Pence is expected to join the field soon.
