SpaceX and Twitter CEO Elon Musk stepped into the fray when he criticized comments made by Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan (D-MN) regarding “gender-affirming” health care.
Musk took issue with remarks made by Flanagan at an event celebrating Democratic Gov. Tim Walz’ signing of an executive order protecting and expanding “gender-affirming” treatments.
The executive order has drawn criticism from conservatives as it effectively forces state agencies to provide “gender-affirming” treatments, including surgical procedures on minors without parental consent.
In hailing the new order, Flanagan addressed the crowd wearing a shirt that read “Protect Trans Kids.” Accompanying the text was a picture of a dagger.
“Let’s be clear,” Flanagan railed, “this is life-affirming and life-saving health care. When our children tell us who they are, it is our job as grown-ups to listen and to believe them. That’s what it means to be a good parent.”
Flanagan’s statement and attire drew negative feedback across social media channels. Musk commented on Twitter to his nearly 132 million followers:
“Not when they’re fed propaganda by adults. Moreover, every child goes through an identity crisis before their personality/identity crystallizes. Therefore, we shouldn’t allow severe, irreversible surgery or sterilizing drugs that they may regret until at least age 18.”
Musk had previously criticized the trans community’s aggressive efforts to connect with minors, whom he believes are not well suited to make unalterable decisions concerning their bodies or sexuality.
In an interview with the Financial Times last fall, Musk criticized the far-left for turning his son against him.
Walz’ executive order follows several red states enacting legislation banning “gender-affirming” surgeries and procedures on minors. Walz referred to that as “persecution.”
Walz recently called out South Dakota’s conservative governor Kristi Noem (R) who last month signed a bill banning puberty blockers, hormone therapy and sex-change surgeries for minors.
Walz said: “I don’t know what a group of people in Pierre who decide to make life miserable and more dangerous for people are thinking, but it’s not going to happen in Minnesota.”
The Daily Wire reported that legislators in Minnesota are considering ways to make Minnesota a “trans refuge state.”
