Elon Musk has spoken out about the indictment against former President Donald Trump, suggesting that the case against Trump may be the result of negative bias in the criminal justice system which ignores similar offenses by less controversial politicians.
Writing on Twitter on Friday, Musk seemed to suggest that there was merit to Trump’s claims that the prosecution against him was a partisan “witch hunt,” using the words of the former president. Though Musk’s response was measured, he called on the justice system to acknowledge these criticisms in order to maintain its credibility and appearance of impartiality.
“There does seem to be far higher interest in pursuing Trump compared to other people in politics,” Musk said in a tweet. “Very important that the justice system rebut what appears to be differential enforcement or they will lose public trust.”
While Musk maintained a detached, curious tone as he evaluated the legal proceedings against the former president, Trump himself was less measured in his response, which he posted on Truth Social on Thursday.
“The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax, even though Joe Biden has 1850 Boxes at the University of Delaware, additional Boxes in Chinatown, D.C., with even more Boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents strewn all over his garage floor where he parks his Corvette, and which is ‘secured’ by only a garage door that is paper thin, and open much of the time,” Trump said via Truth Social.
