SpaceX-Tesla-X CEO Elon Musk announced he will visit Eagle Pass, Texas, to see firsthand the impact illegal immigration is having on small towns across the U.S. southern border.
The Blaze reported that Musk announced his travel plans after discussing the border crisis with GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales.
The entrepreneur wrote on his X platform on Monday:
“I spoke with Rep Tony Gonzales tonight – he confirmed that it is a serious issue. They are being overwhelmed by unprecedented numbers – just hit an all-time high and still growing! Am going to visit Eagle Pass later this week to see what’s going on for myself.”
On Monday, Gonzales, along with GOP Representatives Jodey Arrington, August Pfluger, Ronny Jackson, Nathaniel Moran, and Brandon Williams, reported a holding facility designed to hold 1,000 people was overflowing with 5,000 people.
Alleging that Biden administration border policies have created a humanitarian crisis, Gonzales said: “Now more than ever, Congress needs to pass a strong budget that puts a stop to Biden’s open-borders agenda.”
Gonzales added: “This should not be a partisan issue. My message is clear – end catch and release, stop using asylum as a hall pass, and put our Border Patrol Agents back on the frontlines.”
According to Gonzalez, many more immigrants are heading toward the U.S. border. “Our processing capacity is at four times its max and local resources are being depleted,” he said Friday.
Last week, Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas Jr. issued an emergency declaration claiming a “severe undocumented immigrant surge” was overwhelming the city’s resources.
Musk faults President Biden for failing to secure the southern border, contributing to a spike in drug and human trafficking activity, and creating a housing, education and healthcare crisis.
“Maybe he could also pop over to see our southern border at some point,” Musk mocked.
In another post, Musk pointed to the financial impact immigrants were having on New York City and wrote, “This is a severe crisis.”
