An Ohio father was arrested after police said he confronted and shot a man accused of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old daughter.

The shooting unfolded as authorities investigated allegations against Diego Montoya Gonzalez, who now faces expanded charges in the case.

Gonzalez was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on two counts of rape, five counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, and one count of obstructing official business, according to Franklin County Common Pleas Court records.

He had previously been charged with rape, two counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, and obstruction following the investigation, according to 10TV.

The investigation began on July 15 after Grove City police responded to a report of a sexual assault involving the child.

According to police records, the girl’s mother contacted authorities after allegedly discovering a video on her daughter’s phone that appeared to show sexual conduct involving the child at their home.

Investigators later identified Gonzalez as the person accused in the case.

Authorities said Gonzalez was located on July 22 during an operation involving Grove City police and a specialized response team.

Police said Gonzalez attempted to flee from officers before he was taken into custody.

He was initially held on charges including rape and pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, according to WSYX.

The case gained additional attention after Gonzalez was shot at the same residence one day after the initial report.

Police responding to the July 16 shooting found Gonzalez suffering from two gunshot wounds and transported him to a hospital for treatment. Court records identified the child’s father as the person accused in the shooting.

The alleged victim’s father, whose identity is being withheld by Resist the Mainstream to protect the privacy of the minor involved, was arrested and charged with felonious assault and having a weapon while under disability in connection with the shooting.

According to court documents, the father allegedly contacted Gonzalez through TikTok while pretending to be his daughter in an effort to get him to return to the apartment.

The father told police he intended to confront Gonzalez and physically assault him before contacting law enforcement, according to court documents.

He later said the situation escalated after he believed Gonzalez reached for a firearm. The father is being held on a $100,000 bond, according to The Blaze.

During the investigation into Gonzalez, prosecutors said authorities discovered additional videos on his phone that allegedly showed the sexual abuse of children.

Prosecutors said one video involved an infant or toddler. Gonzalez later pleaded not guilty during an arraignment in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

A judge set Gonzalez’s bond at $20,000 recognizance and $50,000 cash or surety.

If released, Gonzalez was ordered to avoid contact with the alleged victim’s family and was restricted from using the internet except for employment purposes.

Court records show the father had previously faced a charge related to an alleged domestic incident involving a girlfriend, though that case was dismissed.

He also had a prior misdemeanor conviction for attempted breaking and entering. Court proceedings involving both Gonzalez and the child’s father remain ongoing.
