The home of the chief fundraiser for New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Brianna Suggs, has been raided by the FBI.
The raid was conducted early Thursday morning as Adams was traveling to Washington, D.C., for long-awaited face-to-face meetings with Biden administration officials regarding the migrant crisis.
Adams posted this brief video as he traveled to D.C.
News of the raid was relayed to Adams minutes before his meeting at the White House, prompting him to forgo meetings and immediately return to NYC.
At the center of the controversy is Brianna Suggs, who has worked with Adams as a fundraiser and “close consultant” for years, according to the New York Post.
ABC7 NY reported that Suggs coordinated a “straw donation” fraud program that involved matching private donations with government funds to advantage Adam’s campaign. In exchange for the donations, the mayor’s office reportedly granted preferential treatment regarding business, zoning or construction requests.
At this time, Adams is not charged with any crime.
