A former aide to ex-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has been arrested on charges related to child pornography, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Kevin Tomafsky, 41, was indicted in July and arrested August 15, the report noted. The alleged victim’s father was also reportedly charged.
Tomafsky had been under investigation since October 2022, according to a report from the New Jersey Globe.
Snapchat notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the uploading of alleged child sexual abuse, which forwarded the information to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office, the report noted.
The charges against Tomafsky include engaging in sexual conduct with a child, conspiracy to endanger the welfare of a child, permitting a child to engage in pornography and possession of child pornography.
He allegedly paid to “engage in a sexual act” with a six-year-old girl.
Tomafsky, who worked on a number of Republican campaigns in New Jersey, joined Christie’s office in 2010.
He also served as a campaign manager for former Congressman Frank LoBiondo and was employed in the state’s department of labor until his Friday resignation.
Tomafsky received a photo depicting a child being forced into a sexual act by an adult, the Mail report noted.
Police executing a search warrant at his Sewell Township residence revealed nearly 1,000 items described as child sex abuse materials.
The victim’s father faces charges that include committing a sexual act on the six-year-old and photographing the child during the act.
During his tenure with Christie, Tomafsky expressed his dedication, stating in an email, “I am 100 percent on Team Christie, and I want to make sure that I do all that I can to serve him in the best way possible.”
Tomafsky is currently detained in the Salem County Correctional Facility at Mannington.
