Former Texas GOP Rep. Will Hurd predicted that age would play a major factor in a potential 2024 rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, the Washington Examiner.
The former CIA spy shared his thoughts on the matter Sunday with Martha Raddatz on ABC’s “This Week.” Hurd believes that if Biden, 80, and Trump, 76, each win their party’s nomination, age will be a factor that “plagues them both,” as the Washington Examiner reported.
The 45-year-old Hurd also spoke of the views of the nation’s voters on the desirability of a Trump-Biden rematch. “Well, Joe Biden is operating as if Donald Trump is going to be the nominee, and his future success depends on Donald Trump being the nominee. When you have seven out of 10 Americans that doesn’t want to see Joe Biden run for reelection, and six out of 10 Americans not wanting to see Donald Trump run as well. This is a potential rematch in 2024 that nobody wants to see,” said Hurd.
Hurd has garnered some attention as a potential candidate himself, with some speculating that he might make a run as “a centrist Republican candidate.” Hurd traveled to New Hampshire earlier this year.
The subject of Biden’s age particularly has come under even greater scrutiny in light of his official reelection bid. If he were to win, Biden would be 86 if he lived to the end of his second term.
Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris, is 58, so her age is not a detrimental factor. Harris’ popularity, however, is regarded as a burden. Her current RCP average has her at 38.5% favorable and 54.5% unfavorable. The Daily Wire once ran a story naming her “the most unpopular vice president in 50 years.”
Trump has yet to name a running mate, so both the popularity and the age of the man or woman standing behind a prospective President Trump remain unknown.
