Even billionaire ex-presidents can use some extra folding cash to carry around, so Donald Trump is publishing another book.
His newest missive, “Letters to Trump,” is due on the bookshelves in April priced at $99 for an unsigned copy. A signed copy will cost $399, according to a report from Axios.
Donald Trump’s latest literary offering will be printed and promoted by Winning Team Publishing. It is the same company that printed his coffee table photo book, “Our Journey Together,” last year. That book reportedly grossed $20 million in sales the first few months it was available.
Not much writing went into the new book, which Winning Team describes as a colorful photo book. It includes letters received by the former president over the past 40 years. Photos of the letters appear next to commentary from Trump about the author. Letters with difficult-to-read handwriting will include a transcript of the letter, the Axios report noted.
Richard Nixon, Princess Diana, Hillary Clinton, N. Korea’s Chairman Kim Jong Un and Oprah Winfrey are among the celebrities and leaders whose correspondence is included.
“I have to tell you your comments made me a little weepy,” Oprah Winfrey said in a January 2000 letter. Trump had sent the celebrity an excerpt of his book “The America we Deserve” in which he wrote Oprah would be his first choice for vice president.
“Too bad we’re not running for office,” Winfrey concluded her correspondence, “What a team!”
Trump had described how Americans respected and admired the former talk show host for her intelligence and caring attitude.
“She has provided inspiration for millions of women to improve their lives, go back to school, learn to read, and take responsibility for themselves,” Trump wrote. “If I can’t get Oprah, I’d like someone like her.”
Former First Lady Hillary Clinton was probably not the person he had in mind when he penned those words. Conservatives may consider the purchase price worth it just to read Trump’s commentary about his 2016 opponent, whom he dubbed “lying, crooked Hillary” on the campaign trail.
His book harkens back to the days when famous people frequently wrote each other chatty letters instead of a 140 character tweet. Many rich and famous people appear to have regarded the real estate tycoon Trump differently after announcing his presidential candidacy.
Trump still considers Winfrey “amazing,” according to the Axios report in which he laments the regard is not mutually held.
“Sadly, once I announced for President, she never spoke to me again,” claimed Trump in his new book.
