Moscow, Idaho, police officers were called to the residence where the bodies were found to investigate a report of an “unconscious person,” according to a City of Moscow press release.

Moscow Police Department Captain Tyson Berrett told the Idaho Statesman that while investigating the residence, “a house that was converted into an apartment,” police found the four deceased students.

The matter is under investigation, but police are treating the deaths as homicides.

Moscow Police Captain Anthony Dahlinger has not released the names of the deceased, but a report in The Daily Caller noted that the victims are “20-year-old students from Conway, Washington, and Avondale, Arizona, and 21-year-old students from Coeur d’Alene and Rathdrum, Idaho.”

University President Scott Green said in a statement: “It is with deep sadness that I share with you that the university was notified today of the death of four University of Idaho students living off-campus believed to be victims of homicide.”

The University of Idaho is a smaller University with approximately 11,500 students. President Green said: “We are grateful for the support of the community and the ongoing efforts of the Police Department. The university is committed to supporting students and families during this difficult time.”
