Twelve and a half years. That’s how long Maria Bartiromo called Fox News Media home before the network abruptly ended their partnership on Thursday, leaving industry insiders scrambling for answers.

No detailed reasoning accompanied the announcement. Fox News Media, which oversees both Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, kept its public comments brief and carefully worded.

Through a spokesperson, the company offered only gratitude, stating: “We thank Maria for her work over the lasts 12 1/2 years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”

Long before this sudden split, Bartiromo had already carved out legendary status in financial journalism.

Her broadcasting career began quietly behind the scenes at CNN Business News, a far cry from the on-air fame that would eventually define her.

Everything changed in 1993, when she made the jump to CNBC.

What followed was a two-decade run at the NBCUniversal-owned network that would transform her into a household name among market watchers.

History was made when Bartiromo became the first journalist to broadcast live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on a daily basis.

Trading floors are chaotic environments filled with shouting brokers and constantly ringing phones, yet she delivered market updates from the center of that chaos.

That groundbreaking work earned her a nickname that would stick for decades: “Money Honey.”

The label emerged during the roaring stock market of the 1990s, a period when Bartiromo’s face became synonymous with financial news coverage.

Her CNBC tenure also included hosting duties on two major programs.

“Closing Bell” became appointment viewing for market watchers, while “The Wall Street Journal Report” — later rebranded as “On the Money with Maria Bartiromo” — further cemented her authority in the space.

Fame reached unexpected corners of pop culture during this era.

Punk rock icon Joey Ramone, frontman of the Ramones, became a fan of her reporting and penned a song simply titled “Maria Bartiromo” in her honor.

That track found its way onto “Don’t Worry About Me,” a posthumous solo album Ramone released in 2002.

A punk anthem dedicated to a financial anchor was almost unheard of, and it pushed Bartiromo’s name into cultural territory rarely touched by business journalists.

Brooklyn-born and bred, Bartiromo carried her hometown roots into a career that eventually brought her to Fox in 2014.

She stepped into the role of global markets editor at Fox Business, quickly becoming one of the network’s signature personalities.

Weekday audiences came to know her through two flagship programs: “Mornings with Maria” and “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street.”

Both shows leaned heavily on her decades of market expertise and built loyal followings.

Her influence extended to Fox News Channel as well, where she anchored “Sunday Morning Futures.”

That platform gave her room to dig into stories at the crossroads of business, politics, and public policy — territory she’d covered since her CNBC days.

Industry recognition followed Bartiromo throughout her career, including two Emmy Awards for her broadcasting work. In 2011, she added another accolade to her resume with induction into the Cable Hall of Fame.

As of Thursday’s announcement, Fox News Media has not named a replacement to fill Bartiromo’s programming slots.

Her next career move likewise remains unannounced, leaving fans and colleagues to wonder what comes next for the trailblazing anchor.
