Frustrated Texas residents have requested that President Joe Biden come to the U.S. southern border to understand how open border policies impact the region.
Fox News reports that Oralia, a resident who works at a general store in a border town, said: “Biden should come and visit the border and take a look at the problem.”
Cesar, a fellow border town resident and merchant, claimed, “Biden doesn’t care for the southern border. I think [former President] Trump has come more.”
Critics are quick to point out that despite the southern border being a significant issue — costing Americans more than $20,000,000,000 a year, Biden has not made a trip to the border since taking office in 2021.
More than three million illegal crossings and one brief visit by border czar Vice President Kamala Harris later, border states still report that approximately 100,000 cross into the country each month.
Tempers flared when Vice President Harris recently declared that the border was “secure.” Following her announcement, Eagle Pass residents reached out to Fox News to share that they felt “unsafe” and migrants have “trashed ranches, killed pets and stole from businesses.”
Border town store owner Laura Ramos said: “I would like to see Joe Biden here on the border so he can see the problem himself, which is a big problem,” noting she had to “train her children to defend themselves and the family business” due to ongoing problems caused by the nonstop influx of migrants.
“I blame the president” for the ongoing migration issues facing Eagle Pass, Ramos complained.
Cesar suggested: “If Biden is going to let people go in the USA, do it the right way, not just letting all people go. It’s getting out of control every day.”
A man named Juan, who grew up in Eagle Pass, told Fox News:
“Anybody that is in a position to make changes should be taking a first-hand glance of everything that’s going on.”
Griselda, a fellow border town resident, agreed: “I do think the president, Congress, anybody that’s in the position to make decisions should come and see it first-hand.”
Rosie urged the federal government to intervene: “This has got to be more than just the state. This, I think, has got to come from the federal government.”
Rosie added: “However if Biden does visit the border, he should do so in a ‘low-key” way so that he can see what locals experience.”
A man named Armando was not optimistic about receiving help from the Biden administration: “If they come down here, which I think they should, they can take a look at everything that goes down here,” Armando said.
“But I think, personally, I know it won’t happen,” Armando continued: President Biden should “go around asking local business and stuff like that. They’ll be able to tell you how they’ve been impacted … how they don’t feel safe now living in the neighborhoods that were safe before.”
A man named Ricardo said that “the President should be here. We see it under the bridge, a lot of people there. Those people are suffering.”
