A single Instagram post from a Fox News commentator has split conservative social media into two camps this week.
Guy Benson, a contributor to the network, posted photos on July 20 announcing the birth of a daughter.
“She’s here, and she’s perfect,” Benson wrote alongside the images.
The child, named Madison Halsey, arrived through a surrogate, according to Benson’s post.
Benson shares parenting duties with his husband, Adam Wise.
“We are blessed and overjoyed to welcome Madison Halsey into the world and into our family,” Benson wrote in the same post.
A follow-up message from Benson expressed further emotion over the birth. “Our hearts are filled to the brim. A baby girl. We are just so thankful,” he wrote.
Madison is not the couple’s first child born via surrogate.
Benson and Wise welcomed a son through the same process nearly three years earlier.
Word of the birth spread quickly among conservative media figures, drawing an immediate wave of congratulations.
Fox News host Dana Perino publicly congratulated the couple following the announcement.
Former South Carolina Governor and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley also sent congratulations to Benson and Wise.

“It is never ethical to intentionally deny a child her mother… which is exactly what happened here,” one X user posted in response.
The same post continued, “Guy got what he wants. Baby girl is denied what she NEEDS.”
A separate user framed the situation as a lifelong loss for the newborn. “That poor baby will long for her mother for her entire life,” the commenter wrote.
Another critic took aim at the broader practice of surrogacy among same-sex couples.
“It’s infuriating to see a child have to bear a lifelong burden to appease selfish adults whose own lifestyle cannot afford them the opportunity to become a parent,” the user wrote.
Dozens of additional accounts weighed in with similar criticism in the hours following Benson’s post.
The clash illustrates a growing rift within conservative circles over surrogacy, adoption, and family structure as they relate to same-sex parents.
Benson’s position as an openly gay Fox News contributor has made him a frequent flashpoint in these debates for years.
