Fox News contributor Geraldo Rivera stepped into hot water on Tuesday by venting frustration at conservatives who continue investigating President Joe Biden’s son Hunter. In a fiery tweet, Rivera challenged conservatives to “put up or shut up.”
In his tweet, Rivera asserted the GOP’s five-year investigation into Hunter’s business dealings produced no results. Townhall, however, previously reported that the Democrat-controlled Congress actively suppressed information needed for a complete investigation.
Rivera asserted that the GOP’s investigation is part of a Biden family smear campaign and that the Hunter story is not newsworthy as it boils down to a few ill-advised selfies and some drug use.
Rivera tweeted: “Hunter Biden has been investigated for almost five years. Aside from fact he’s been a junkie dirtbag nothing remotely criminal has been uncovered. Put up or shut up.”
Michael Caputo, a Republican political strategist, responded to Rivera’s tweet by writing: “Geraldo still doesn’t get it — after 50 years in journalism, you have to assume he simply doesn’t want to get it.”
Other Twitter users noted how many legacy media networks and 50 “intelligence community experts” suppressed or discounted the Hunter Biden laptop story. That narrative that the laptop was hacked has since been proven false — former President Donald Trump asserts the false narrative impacted the 2020 presidential election.
The Federalist’s Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway took Rivera’s challenge to heart. Though a new House subcommittee is in the early stages of its investigation, she “put up” a list of what she referred to as “crimes” of which Hunter may be guilty.
The Daily Wire noted that Hemingway gave Rivera “more than he bargained for.”
Hemingway wrote: “Setting aside the gun crimes, prostitution crimes, drug crimes, tax crimes, bribery receipts, foreign agent shenanigans, money laundering, pay-for-play, and kid-glove treatment from the corrupt and politicized FBI and DOJ, this is a really astute observation.”
Earlier this week, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer announced the new subcommittee had recently received a trove of subpoenaed financial records. He asserted the documents show the Biden family had financial dealings in 12 countries, which generated “tens of millions of dollars.”
Comer reported: “After two months of dragging their feet, the Treasury Department is finally providing us with access to the suspicious activity reports for the Biden family and their associates’ business transactions.”
