The GOP’s Site Selection Committee chose Milwaukee to host the 2024 Republican National Convention in a recommendation to the Party on Friday.

“Today, the Site Selection Committee voted to recommend Milwaukee to host the 2024 Republican National Convention and it is a testament to the forthright and professional behavior embraced by Milwaukee’s city leaders throughout the process,” RNC Senior Adviser Richard Walters said. “A final decision will be made by Chairwoman [Ronna] McDaniel and the full RNC in the coming weeks.”

Wisconsin’s largest city got the nod from the Republican selection committee over Nashville after two Nashville city council members reportedly stopped a draft agreement to host the Republican National Convention from making it on the meeting agenda at the last minute.

The city stands in an important swing state that voted for former President Donald Trump in 2016 before flipping to the Democrats in 2020. Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers is up for re-election in November in what is expected to be a tight race.
