Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), a first-term representative who has angered liberals with her conservative views and support of Gov. Ron DeSantis, announced through Time Magazine that she was expecting her first child later this year.
Luna’s pregnancy was announced on Monday — she expects to deliver a son in late August.
Luna is the first Mexican-American congressperson from Florida. Though a woman of color, the DNC has targeted her as a prime candidate to defeat in 2024.
In 2022, Luna won her seat by eight points.
Reportedly unfazed by being targeted and heavily criticized by the left, in late April Luna angered Democrats by tweeting that those who wished to voice a complaint could do so by “calling this number.” Those who called the number heard Rick Astley singing his 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
According to the Daily Caller, Luna and her husband are excited about the pregnancy: “We are very excited to welcome our son later this summer. Children are a blessing, and we could not have asked for a greater gift.”
Luna has been a long-time advocate for children. The congresswoman broke down during a committee hearing in March when photos of 115 full-term aborted babies were displayed. An emotional Luna said at the time that the babies, found in a home, constituted “one of the most egregious crimes [that] occurred in DC.”
On Monday, Luna denounced Biden administration border policies that put the wellbeing of immigrants — particularly unaccompanied minors — at risk.
