Missouri Republican Governor Mike Parson signed a bill into law over the weekend that bars local police departments from enforcing federal gun control laws that violate Second Amendment rights, a move that comes as Democrat President Joe Biden seeks to impose stricter gun control.
“The new law allows state gun laws to surpass federal gun laws and holds police departments liable if an officer violates someone’s second amendment rights,” FOX 4 reported. “If someone’s second amendment right is violated, local law enforcement could pay $50,000.”
Parson, a former sheriff, said that the law “draws a line in the sand and demonstrates our commitment to reject any attempt by the federal government to circumvent the fundamental right Missourians have to keep and bear arms to protect themselves and their property.”
“Missouri’s HB 85 puts those in Washington D.C. on notice that here in our state we support responsible, law-abiding gun owners, and that we oppose government overreach and any unlawful efforts to limit our access to firearms,” Parson added.

The law comes as Biden has repeatedly called for banning semi-automatic firearms, forcing certain types of pistols to be registered with the federal government and taxed, and nominating an anti-Second Amendment zealot to run the ATF.
