Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) reiterated his call for federal agencies to be overhauled after the release of the report from special counsel John Durham on Monday.
The Florida governor said the report, which looked into the origins and conduct of the FBI investigation regarding alleged ties between former President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russia, “confirmed what we already knew” about the “false conspiracy theory” relating to Trump and Russia.
“The Durham Report confirmed what we already knew: weaponized federal agencies manufactured a false conspiracy theory about Trump-Russia collusion,” DeSantis tweeted.
“It reminds us of the need to clean house at these agencies, as they’ve never been held accountable for this egregious abuse of power,” DeSantis added.
DeSantis previously served in the House from January 2013 until September 2018 before being inaugurated as the Sunshine State’s governor in January 2019. In the House, DeSantis was a critic of the Trump-Russia investigation. He called it a “goose chase” that was wasting time.
“The goose chase for Trump-Russia collusion took up valuable time and has unnecessarily politicized policy towards Russia. The net result is the undermining of our ability to confront Russia malevolence in a unified fashion,” DeSantis tweeted after the House Intelligence Committee found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
