A sold-out South Dakota event will raise funds for former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and may signal interest in adding the state’s governor to his ticket.
Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) is expected to endorse the front-running GOP candidate during Friday’s sold-out political gathering in Rapid City, South Dakota, according to a Fox News report.
The joint appearance of Trump and Noem has fueled speculation Trump may be considering Noem as a potential 2024 vice-presidential candidate.
“We have not discussed it at all,” Noem said during a Thursday appearance on the Fox program “Fox & Friends.”
The Northwest governor, who publicly considered a presidential run of her own before deciding against it, was asked if she would run as Trump’s vice president if asked.
“Yeah. I’d have to consider it,” she responded. “It’s such an important time in our history where we see constitutional freedoms being undermined by leaders across this country almost every day.”
Noem has acknowledged Trump is the strongest contender for the GOP nomination.
“I do feel pretty confident that President Trump will be the Republican nominee for president,” she stated. “He obviously has a record that he’s running on and people know with him what they’re getting.”
Noem also highlighted Trump’s commitment to every state, noting that while other GOP contenders focused only on states like Iowa and New Hampshire, Trump declared everybody matters to him.
South Dakota’s GOP senators, John Thune and Mike Rounds, have endorsed Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina for the GOP nomination.
Noem has not yet made a formal endorsement but hinted at supporting Trump.
“I’ve talked openly that he’s the candidate that I’m supporting,” Noem said. “So tomorrow we’ll have some conversations at the rally that I think everybody will be interested in.”
“Of course he’s absolutely the best choice for us,” she added. “I don’t know of any other candidate that’s running for president right now that fought when it mattered.”
Sources have confirmed that Noem is expected to formally endorse Trump at the Rapid City event.
